The Education
“Education is by a kingdom and for citizenship in that kingdom” William Harry Jellema
At Zipline, our educational approach flows directly from our goals and values. We believe that all students are capable of thriving in their environment, as long as the environment is willing and able to meet them where they are. This belief is rooted in decades of research including diverse theorists such as Bloom and his mastery of learning (1968), Ryan and Deci and their theory of Self-Determination theory (2017), and Ladson-Biling’s culturally relevant pedagogy(2021). With that core idea in mind, Zipline strives to adapt the instruction, both in terms of abilities and interests. Instead of propelling students forward at arbitrarily decided speeds that may overwhelm or bore students, Zipline allows students to move at their own pace while selecting different paths to engage their interests in the ways most meaningful to them. By taking this approach, Zipline pursues two primary goals,
- To help students achieve their highest possible academic potential.
- To help students enjoy and feel valued in their educational setting.
Zipline works to achieve these goals by providing diverse options through which the students engage the system while making education as thoughtful, fun, and collaborative as possible.
